I was at work, when a friend of mine called about his work schedule that day. He called back two seconds later and told me a plane hit the World Trade Center. I know right then it was terrorism. Planes have been flying over New York for years, there was no way this was an accident. We were on the phone through the second plane hitting the second tower. I remember worrying about college friends that lived and worked in New York. And then the Pentagon was hit, and I was worrying about a cousin that worked there. And when the plane went down in Pennsylvania, I was worrying about friends there. It was the worst day of my life. A day that I never thought I'd see, and when it happened I felt like it would never end.

Hi, im from australia so i dont know if this matters or not.........but september 11th 2001 will be a day of unforgettable memories of feeling helpless, devastated and very scared....
I was online playin backgammon.....saw a newsflash on tv and reported in the lobby when the first plane struck.... believing it was an accident at first to then seeing the second plane hit the towers....... The whole lobby was querying my statements then once they switched on the tv also confirmed........ Once that second plane had struck it there was a mass of fear........ i was playing with people from that area..... one girl in particular thought that her partner was somewhere there..... and for the next 2 hours we were with her supporting her......as she was unable to get through to him..... i was up that nite until 4.30 am...... i felt compelled to stick with my friends there....to offer support...... the one thing that has never left my mind is how real and how scared i was....... that fear lives with me still...... Fear that some one like myself could fall victim again to such horrific actions....
Although im not religious much...it is this situation that opens up my soul and prays that this will never happen again....... that as a human race we can focus upon resolve to the ongoing conflict of greed, belief, colour and race......that we can someday we can unite for a common aim... Peace and harmony.......
To the people of the United States, although i dont agree totally with your policies and your way of life.... i do believe that the callous attack on September 11th on the people of your country was shattering and totally unfair... My heart goes out to all the ffamilies of those who lost loved ones..
LEST WE FORGET
with love from australia xxx

I am British and I watched all the events unfold on the BBC at home whilst I was working. My wife came through to my office to tell me that a plane had crashed into one of the Twin Towers in New York and my first thought was for my parents, who had both flown over to visit my cousin several days before and were due to be in Manhattan that day. As I watched the news unfold while, unsuccessfully, trying to reach my father on his mobile, I then saw the second plane strike the second tower.
It was at that point that not only I, but also the rest of the world knew for sure that this was no freak accident and we were witnessing a global act of terror. I was glued to the TV for the morning whilst also trying to contact my American colleagues in our London office to offer my sympathies. It felt insignificant, but was the only thing I could do.
There is no way to express the shock, but there is a way to express the solidarity with a nation struck by such as calculated and well-planned strike at civilians who were not at war with anyone. Britain holds America as its friend not just because of previous wars were both fought equally, but more importantly because we share similar attitudes and beliefs about democracy, freedom of speech and movement as well as the right to live in peace.
My parents were alive and well and survived the attack. My cousin went to work at her hospital, she is a highly-qualified nurse, as is her husband, to do what she could. I now work in the Middle East because I now that the problem is not Arabs, nor Muslims, but extremists who, literally, live in their own little world and can’t abide for others to live in a world with different rules to theirs.
Recently a flag of the Union Jack, which was found in the rubble, was returned to Britain by a lieutenant from the FDNY with the words that it should find it’s home in Britain. After all that has happened this has brought closer ties with America – and I count this a good thing out of such a bad thing.

I was in the shower the morning of the attacks. My husband came in to tell me that someone had bombed the Pentagon and the Trade Centers. At that time, we did not know that planes had hit both locations. I remember hurrying to finish, so that I could find out what was happening. By the time I got to my living room to watch the event unfold, I had found that airplanes had crashed into the buildings. My children and I watched as one by one the towers that towered over the New York horizon fell to the ground. I will never forget the horror and devastation I felt. Not only those feelings were present, but a massive feeling of helplessness overcame me. I was watching as people were losing their lives and there was nothing I could do to help. I continued to watch as I helped at my children’s school that day with school pictures. I tried over the next few days to help my children, ages 7 & 8 at the time, to understand why someone would do this.
Today a year later, watching the memorials on television and also attending a local memorial at the university where I work, I remembered that feeling of helplessness. Although this time, I noticed as the construction workers on our campus realized there was a service and stopped working, removed their hard hats and stood in remembrance of those we lost, that this nation is united in everything we do. We have to be united to be Americans. So, as my children are again today getting their school pictures taken, I remember how much I love our country and how sorry I am for the families of those who were lost in this terrible tragedy. I will anxiously await the arrival of the school pictures because I can not wait to see all the children in their red, white, and blue, the colors they wore to support their country on the anniversary of this terrible event. All I can say with my thoughts and prayers is GOD BLESS AMERICA and UNITED WE STAND.
