I was at work (on a US Navy Installation called AUTEC, in the Bahamas) and one of our young Techs walked in to my ofice and said, "A plane just crashed in to the World Trade Center". I said, "Oh my God" and asked if it was an accident. He said he didn't think so, and left to go and continue listening to his radio. He returned in a few minutes to tell me that the 2nd plane had hit the 2nd Tower.... We both became numb. He walked away and I, trembling while doing so,logged on to one of the Internet News Sites. There was just a few lines of facts...... nothing else. I checked a few of the other News Sites, and they were basically the same. Then news of the Pentagon was making the rounds. By then no one in the building was working. Our Division Manager quietly walked around to all of our areas and told us we could leave early for lunch and strongly urged us to go to our Living Quarters and turn on our TV's....

After that, I was glued to the TV whenever possible. I cried everytime anything was mentioned. I called or sent Emails to all of my family and friends - widely scattered in USA - to insure that they were safe. I was scared. I felt isolated and frustrated because I was not in the USA, closer to my loved ones.

I did not personally know any victims or their families. I cannot comprehend the grief they must feel. I know what I feel and it is overwhelming.

God Bless us all.

I am English. On Sep 11 I was out in my garden - it was a nice day - I was actually up a ladder trimming a hedge! Suddenly a passer by said - go inside and switch on your Tv - all hell has broken loose - something terrible has happened.

I did just that and I could not believe what I was seeing on the screen. It was so unreal - like a movie. It took some time for it to sink in - I felt sick to my stomach. As it unfolded we were dumbstruck - all those poor people.

No one I knew was far from their TV for hours even days. The streets were very quiet. People spoke in hushed voices. Many were very angry.

How can anyone do this thing in the name of any religion? They were not martys who earned a place in heaven, they were and still are evil men.

Sept 4th, I flew 500 miles down to southern California to get acquainted with our new granddaughter (she joined a sister and brother). The morning of 9/11 I had remained quietly in bed, as the baby and mother had had a bad night. The phone rang, the machine came on, and my husband said,"Get up! Get up! The world is coming to an end, turn on your tv!" I called him right back and found out what he was talking about, then turned on the tv. I sat in stunned silence watching the tv, until I couldn't stand it anymore. I hurried upstairs, shook my daughter-in-law awake, saying,"I can't do this by myself anymore...", and as she slowly came around, explained what had been happening. We spent the rest of the day glued to the set, hugging each other and the children. The children asking where their morning programs were numerous times. In the worst way, I wanted to gather up this family and take them up north, to home with me. I was due to fly home on the 12th, but ended up with a rental car at John Wayne Airport, which looked deserted except for the sheriff's deputies very much in view, and the long line of vehicles waiting to drop off people to pick up cars. One lady at the counter asked how long it would take to drive to Florida! When I called the airline on 9/11 about my flight, the first thing I asked was if there had been many cancellations? Her reply was "No, uh, well yes." Another person from our little town was in Las Vegas at a meeting. There were no rental cars left, so he rented a U-Haul truck and drove home!

We live in Arizona. Our clock radio usually comes on at 5:50. On the morning of 9/11, we awoke a few minutes early. The wind chimes on the patio outside our bedroom door were swinging in the breeze. Usually, the sound is soothing and melodious. On this day, though, I distinctly recall thinking that the chimes sounded ominous, as though blown by an "ill wind". As I continued to awaken, I wondered why such a strange thought had crossed my mind.

The radio then clicked on to the first horrendous news of the WTC attack. Much later, I realized that my reaction to the chimes had come at the exact moment (Eastern Time) the first plane had slammed into the Trade Center.

We had moved to AZ earlier in 2001. Until then, our whole lives had been lived in the Mid-Atlantic states. I had visited #7 WTC, (the third building to go down),several times in the course of my work. Although the industry organization I visited had had the good fortune to move from #7 several months previous to the attack, I wonder to this day if my path had ever crossed that of a future victim during one of those visits.

Oddly enough, My husband and I had not felt homesick for the Northeast until 9/11. Now, we feel the need to get back "home". I pray for the victims, their loved ones, our country, and, yes, those twisted souls who would emulate these horrific acts, daily.
