I was at school in Des Moines, Iowa
I was the first person in my school to find out that this had happened. I told everybody, nobody believed me until I told them to turn on a tv. Then that awarded me.

At my desk at work- a co-worker came through and told everyone what was happening- we were shocked! A co-worker quick went home and brought her small tv in and we watched off and on the rest of the day what was going on.

I had just taken my son to school. The car radio interrupted with the story that the 1st plane had hit the tower. I didn't know what to think at that point! I returned home and turned on my tv, just before the 2nd plane hit. At that point I became very interested, I knew that this was no longer an accident. I watched until a short time after the pentagon was hit. At that point I decided that it would be best to turn off my tv. I was 7 1/2 months pregnant with our daughter and knowing what was going on and the stress that it was causing me, I took a nap. My husband is a legal specialist for the Army and my friends, fearing that he may be called to a war, called me to see if I was alright.
I ended up getting very sick that day. Something was wrong, I didn't know what, just that I didn't feel well. I went to the hospital and had to have an emergency c section, because my blood pressure had gotten too high and they feared for the baby and for me. My daughter was born 6 weeks premature and in need of alot of help. She needed to be sent to a hospital nearly 2hours away from our home. They had to take her by lifeflight, well due to the fact that air space was closed that day virtually all over the world, they weren't going to take her. Finally they did agree to let her go, otherwise she would have died. She was the only lifeflight in Iowa that day!
She is doing well now, a happy and very healthy 6 month old! I look back at all of it now with questions that I will probably never have answered and with a great deal of anger. I wasn't in the trade center that day, I had never even been there, nor was I anywhere near the Pentagon, but my family was affected in our own little way!
That day our lives changed forever! We saw the horrific evil that is here on this earth, but for my family there was good too. We will celebrate our daughter's 1st Birthday on the Anniversary of the attacks, but we will also mourn for those lost.
To all of the families of those lost we will never begin to know your pain, and cannot pretend to. And even though I don't know anyone who lost a loved one in the attacks, know that I do think of the families that did lose loved ones. I pray every night that God grant you the courage to go on! May God be will you all! And may we never forget that perfect morning that turned into an unspeckable tagidy!

When I found out about the attacks on the World Trade center I was walking down the English hallway of our school. An aquaintence of mine was running down the hallway saying "A plane just flew into the WTC and into the pentagon. I imeadeatly went downstairs to the computer lab to find my teacher and tell him. When I was in the lab I saw two of my friends and told them what was going on. They believed me about the WTC but didnt believe that the Pentagon had also been hit. They convinced me that I was wrong saying "They are in two totaly different areas" sure my aquaintence could have been wrong, but I wanted to for myself, so I Turned to the internet. That's whent i saw the terror that was happening. I immeadeatly found my National HOnor Society instructor and we organized a pop can drive that raised over $5,000 for the Red Cross. The plans were made by 10:30 on 9/11 and that Saturday our drive proved to be a success.

I was in school. I didn't hear anything about it until about 9:15 CDT, after first hour, in the hallway. I heard people talking about some bombing of some kind, but thought nothing of it. When I got to my 2nd hour class about two minutes later, the teacher was talking to somebody else while he was walking in the room. He said something like "this is a lot worse than the Oklahoma City bombing." I was thinking oh great, what happened now. I sat through the whole period wondering what had happened. When I got to my third period class at about 10:00 CDT, the TV was on in the room. They were showing people running, screaming, hiding behind cars. On the bottom of the screen, it said something about the world trade centers collapsing. I was totally shocked. Our class just sat there in silence watching the TV. Our teacher told us that this is probably the biggest thing we will witness in our lives, and it was happening right there, right now. Even then, it seemed like a bad dream that I couldn't wake up from. It actually took a few weeks for it to "sink in." When I woke up the next morning, I turned on the TV hoping that I had just woken up from a really bad dream and it hadn't happened. Unfortunately, it really had happened. I hope that the victims are coping well today, now close to ½ year later.
