I had almost finished getting ready for work. I always listened to the radio in the morning, and the DJ announced that a plane had just crashed into the WTC. I ran into the living room where my mother had just gotten up. She aked me what was going on, and I turned on the TV. It was minutes before the second tower was hit. In that short time, I went from naively believing that the first plane was simply an accident...praying that it was simply an accident...only to be crushed with the dread of knowing...two could not be coincidence.
I drove to work that day looking over my shoulder at the Sear's Tower, afraid of what I would see.

I am British and I live in York at the time i was sitting in my living room and had just finished watching neighbours and a news flash appeared on the screen and said that they were getting reports that a plane had crashed in to the WTC it was amazing to see, my friend came over and we were just glued to the TV for hours unable to comprehend what we were seeing second tower , pentagon , and Pensylvania it just got worse and worse as the afternoon went on, it started at 2.10 pm here.In the end I had to turn the TV off as it was just too much I was also very worried about the out come as my husband is in the Army and I thought there is bound to be some sort of millitary backlash.I cant belive its been 1 year already its my birhtday on sept 10 and every year I will be thanking god im alive and my family is all safe and well.The thing that upsets me the most is when you hear the messages from people in the towers on on the planes left on answering machines its just heart breaking.There is no doubt the world has changed forever a feeling violation and disgust for the people who did this, and it has certanly made me think twice about bringing children in to this sad sad world.

I was a stay at home mom during this time. The children had slept in that day. Although I was awoken by my best friend, who called just to see what I was doing later on that evening. I was still half asleep when I turned on the television and saw the first tower on fire. I quickly interrupted her in the middle of saying something. To tell her the WTC was on fire. She said she just heard that a plane had hit the tower. I was like that is crazy, how could someone not know they were there? I mean everyone could see those. We talked for just a min. or two about the matter. Then I told her I was going to sit down and watch the news, and would call her when I woke up a little more. Just then I hung up the phone and sat down on the couch and >BAM

I was at work on that beautiful September morning. I got a phone call from a co-worker who lived in Jersey City and was driving to our office in Fort Lee, NJ. She was hysterical, screaming that a plane had it one of the World Trade Center buildings. As we got off the phone, I couldn’t help but think to myself….what kind of idiot could lose control of a plane and hit a building. Of course, thinking that it was a tiny, probably private plane, and that everything was fine! Until I got back to my desk, just to find out that another had hit!! I was terrified!! I’ve heard the word terrorist before….but I’ve never had to use it or say it before 9/11…this was something that happens elsewhere, not here…not in the U.S.A.
There was one office on my floor that you could see the Towers from. I made me sick to see it. I could only look briefly. Just as the first tower fell, our office manager came around and immediately sent everyone home. I came to find out the very next day…that on 9/11, apparently there was some kind of threat on the George Washington Bridge….located right next to my building!!
The office was closed for the remainder of the week. There was no way to get to my building…the National Guards had every street closed!! When the office finally did reopen, the National Guardsman where at the GW Bridge 24/7. I have to admit…at first it really scared me!! But after a while, I really did appreciate the fact that they were there. I felt safe. I would watch them from my office window, as they pulled over trucks and vans to search. It just made me feel more at ease to know they were there…protecting us!!
Not only do I work right across the river from NYC, I also live there. One thing I will never, ever forget is the horrible smell that was in the air for days after the attack. I could smell it in the house, and it was 100 times worse when I stepped outside. That smell will always be with me!!
The emotions that I felt then that still remain will never go away. The anger, the hurt, trying to understand why anyone could hate us that much. The feeling of wanting to get revenge. Also the thought of all the helpless people in those buildings that had no options, no choices….those horrible thought will always be there!!
My heart goes out to all the people who have lost a mother, father, sister, brother, other family member, and/or close friend. September 11th will be on our minds and in our hearts forever!

My Mother called me at 6:00am (PST) and I ingnored her call. I woke up and turn the TV on and every channel I watched was broadcasting the events of September 11. I had to go to school and at the time I didn't realize to what degree of destruction would occur. During class my boyfriend text'd messaged me everything that was happening. When I got out of class I called my father, who works on a military base, and he told me they were on lock down and he would be going home soon. I hung up and began to cry. I returned home and watched the events unfold over and over again. I cried harder and harder and fell asleep in my boyfriend's lap. When I awoke I continued to cry and eventually forced myself to go to work. When I arrived at work we were told to go home. I returned home and just continued to watch the tragic events unfold.
