Tuesday, Sept. 11th 5:30 AM PST, my husband and I were awake, dressed, having coffee and watching the morning news before he leaves for work and I drive 30 miles to babysit my granddaughter Madison. The first news reports were unbelieveable and shocking. "NO, this isn't happening."
Was my first reaction. I telephoned my family immediately. My sister's reaction at first was "What! You're watching TV in the morning?" We watched in silence the rest of the morning. All I could think of was that my grandchild's future was forever changed. Truly, it was the end of the INNOCENSE. Now, we hug each other a little longer and tighter and say "I LOVE YOU" every chance we get. Our sympathy and prayers to the victims families.

I was sound asleep on Tuesday morning when I was awakened by a phone call from my husband. He was calling me from the road on his way to an interview in Palo Alto. He excitedly told me to go turn on the TV ; "...a plane has hit the WTC!" He said he'd be home asap that his interview had been cancelled as the person he was scheduled to meet with had a son who was working at the WTC. I was shocked and horrified by the sights and sounds on the TV. I watched as the second plane hit and felt glued to the TV. I finally dragged myself away long enough to shower and go to work. At work we all crowded around a radio unsure if we should stay or go home. All we wanted to do was be with our loved ones. I'm a child therapist and I kept thinking about the effect of the coverage on children and teens. In the past 6 mos. we've had a huge increase in suicidal teens in our clinic. My life often feels divided between before and after thoughts. I can sympathize with their anxiety; the world as we knew it has been forever changed. Anything is possible.

I WAS WAKING UP RATHER LATE THAT DAY. EVERYONE WENT TO WORK. I WAS GETTING COFFEE READY WHEN I TURNED ON MY COMPUTER AND THERE IT WAS. JUST AFTER THE 1ST PLANE HIT. I WAS SPEECHLESS!!!
I FELT VUNERABLE AND DID NOT EVEN WANT TO GO OUTSIDE FOR FEAR OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. WE ON THE WEST COAST WERE JUST AS MOVED BY THIS AS THE REST OF OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. WAVE THAT FLAG AMERICA! WE ARE THE GREATEST AND MOST LUCKY COUNTRY IN THIS WORLD!

I was sleeping when the phone rang and it was my daughter who was driving to Ohio telling me to turn on the t.v. She had heard the reports on the radio about the attacks.

On September 11, 2001 I was in Honolulu, Hawaii. My husband and I come to Hawaii as often as we can for rest and relaxtion. On that morning when I got up the TV was on which was highly unusual. I ask my husband if something had happened and he said I had to see for myself. When I came into the main cabin (we live on a boat in Hawaii) I could not believe my eyes. They were replaying over and over the planes crashing into the Twin Towers. It was so totally surreal and unbelievable. I have never felt so far away from my own family and friends on the mainland. It was almost impossible to take it all in and have any kind of understanding why someone would do such a thing. On that day I realized that I took for granted in many ways living in and being an American. I do not believe that will ever be possible to do again. This is our Pearl Harbor and we should never forget those whose lives were cut short and those who have to go on without them. We should always stand tall and be proud to be AMERICANS!
